Shechinah Silks

Welcome to this new business venture - Shechinah Silks.

I have been painting tallitot, huppahs, and wall hangings for over 20 years. Usually they take a lot of space and time to complete as they are large items - so I have only done one or two pieces a year.

On this new leg of the journey I have been experimenting with smaller designs for altar cloths, shivitis, word mandalas, and shapes - requiring me to stretch my talents and master new techniques.

I have enjoyed every minute of the painting, so there is a lot of joy in each piece. Each texture of silk absorbs paint differently and it’s as if the colors have a life of their own, blending and spinning in overlapping moments. The thinner silks are called habotai, there is also silk satin and charmeuse. The design is put on with gutta, a gold glue paint which must dry before paint is applied. The colors are both paints and dye requiring different setting methods, and each piece is steamed and ironed to set the color.

I have given consideration to time and materials in pricing each piece. Some pieces are priced on a sliding scale. I would like to find all of these pieces a home, so no reasonable offer will be refused.

In addition, if you have an idea or other colors in mind, I am totally open to suggestions and commissions. I am also offering “Silk Soul Sessions” where someone books my time and we work together using meditation, spiritual guidance and the silk to develop your own piece.

If you are interested in any of these pieces, would like to commission a piece, would like to set up a “Silk Soul Sessions”, or have any other suggestions, please call 215-782-1221 or email me at
